A Hint Of Fall

I took a couple days off last week to spend with the kids before they go back to school and we packed in so many activities, the time flew by!

Thursday we went to the Minnesota State Fair.  Here we tried the new (oh so talked about) food item called Pig Lickers.  This is fried bacon dipped in chocolate…what’s not to love, right?!  Well, for some reason I was expecting it to be warm.  I don’t know why I thought this, other than when I eat bacon, it’s usually warm. Second, I think I would have liked it better if it were crisp…not wimpy. It wasn’t horrible though, so if you’re heading over there and have an extra $5.00 to spend (a little pricy), give it a try.

The Grand Stand was in rock mode that night with 3 Doors Down, Hinder, Staind (no typo, that’s how you really spell it), and Jet Black Stare.  It was a beautiful night with just a few sprinkles and the music was good (some of the fans…that’s another story).  It didn’t get done until 11:00 p.m. (hey, that’s late for someone who does the Daybreak show!), so Friday we tried to catch up on our sleep and of course I enjoyed my usual Friday night fish fry…yum.

Saturday we headed up to Bayfield and Madeline Island.  A hint of fall was in the air and boy was it windy!  Check out the wild hair-dos while riding the ferry boat over:

It is certainly a different way of life up there.  Very laid back.

We wrapped up the long weekend by heading to Willow River State Park in Hudson and taking a walk down to the water falls.  I highly recommend this little day trip…it’s beautiful.

As far as the weather this week in the Chippewa Valley…enjoy the sunshine and seasonable temps with a slight possibility of some much needed rain by Wednesday.  It’s getting pretty dry out there so we’ll take what we can get.

Have a great week!

Is Your TV Signal Spotty?

It’s that time of year when the days start getting shorter and our normal highs are on the downswing.  Conversations around the office and home focus on getting outside and enjoying the summer, because fall (then winter) will be here shortly!

Something else that’s quite common this time of year is fog.  Shorter days and longer nights give the atmosphere more time to cool off, allowing temperatures to drop down to the dew point temperature, at which point we see fog form.  We also start to see cooler air aloft as that Canadian air sinks southward…adding to the development of fog.

Well, not only does the "ground cloud" make it a challenge out on the roads…it interrupts your TV signal. You may have noticed that during your favorite show, your TV will temporarily blink out.  It’s the moisture in the air interrupting the signal that’s bringing the programming into your TV.  It’s just too thick and juicy for the "micro-wave" to make it through.

The good news is…the outages usually don’t last real long and they typically occur in the early morning when fog is more prevalent.  Gives ya just enough time to go grab another cup of joe!

Have a great day!
