Weather Watcher

For those folks who get excited about the weather like I do and Meteorology school isn’t in the budget…here’s the perfect antidote – be a Skywarn Weather Watcher!  The National Weather Service is now offering Skywarn classes for the upcoming severe weather season.  Even if you don’t want to be a “certified” watcher…you can attend the class just to learn about weather.

No pre-requisites are required and it’s free…just register for a class nearby and enjoy!

Here’s a link to the site and as you can see, they offer many classes all around western Wisconsin.

Oh, My Aching…

You’ve probably heard the saying at least once in your lifetime…”the weather is going to change, I can feel it in my bones,” and actually there is some truth to the old adage.

The main reason the weather changes outside, is due to air pressure changes around the earth. We’ve got your high pressure and we’ve got your low pressure, and it’s just what it sounds like. High pressure is when the air (atmosphere) is pressing down harder on the earth (and humans) and low pressure is when the air is rising, therefore taking pressure off the earth and everything on it.

Well, your body also has pockets of air within it, especially in the joint area. When the air pressure changes outside, it also has to change inside your body. If this change happens quickly, many times our bodies can’t keep up and it creates a large pressure difference between the air outside and the air inside our body. That’s when things start to ache.

Usually once the pressure stabilizes, the aching goes away or at least lessens, however…if you’ve had a joint injury this can exasperate the pain.

So next time you hear Grandma say, “oh my aching bones,” expect a change in the weather.
